Install ESXCLI on a Linux System

You can install ESXCLI by running the installer as root.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that there is no existing ESXCLI installation on the system.

Procedure

  1. Download the ESXCLI Linux installer package.
You can find a link to the installer on the ESXCLI page, which you can find in the Developer Tools section of the Resources tab on the VMware {code} Web site.
  2. Run the installer.
    sudo bash esxcli-7.0.0-XXXXXXXX-lin64.sh

Results

If you accepted the EULA and the installation completed successfully, you can find the installed software in /opt/vmware/esxcli. To make sure that ESXCLI functions properly, you must not move any of the installed files.
