Having trouble logging in?
Cannot create a SR?
Cannot submit a certification?
These are all signs that Workbench cannot connect to VMware's servers on the Internet.
Workbench will work even if it cannot connect to the Internet, but you will not be able to create SRs, submit a certification, or log into your VMware account.
- If you are working behind a firewall, you need to configure proxy settings properly. If you have not done so yet, please do it now.
- If you have already configured your proxies, but still cannot not log in, create an SR, or submit a certification, then see if the machine where you run Workbench can access the Internet. On the same command where you run Workbench, start up a web browser, and browse to:
http://www.vmware.com
or any other public web site. If that fails, then you need to talk to your corporate IT in order to configure your firewalls, network, and proxies, to allow this machine to access the Internet.
- If you can browse to public web sites, then try browsing specifically to the URLs that Workbench uses:
http://partnerweb.vmware.com/cva_results/cert_result_upload.php
https://vdc-repo.vmware.com/api
If this fails, then you need to talk to your Corporate IT, to make sure that VMware machines are on whatever "whitelist" is needed so that you can access those URLs.
- Note that if you are trying to submit a certification, and cert_result_upload URL above shows you a web form, then you can use that form to submit a certification directly from your web browser. This can be used as a workaround until you configure your network.
- If you can browse to the VMware web sites from the machine running Workbench, but you still get the error message from Workbench itself, saying that you cannot connect, then please double check your proxy setting in Workbench by clicking here, because it seems those settings are wrong. Look for typos, and make sure you have set up both HTTP and HTTPS proxies correctly. Workbench uses both.
- The easiest way to test your Internet access is by logging into your VMware account (myVMware): click on the blue "log in" button on the main VMware Workbench page. You can see that page by clicking on the "VMware Workbench" tab at the top of this page, or the house icon in the upper left corner of this page.
